Brookings ranked the 100 largest U.S. metrpo areas on six key indicators: employment, unemployment rates, gross metropolitan product, housing prices and foreclosurs rates. The organization says the reportis “by far the most comprehensives analysis to date of how metro areas acrossa the nation are faring during this economic downturn Wichita ranked high despite an unemploymentf rate of 7.1 percent and thousands of layoffs associated with the aircrafty industry. San Antonio ranked No. 1, followedf by Oklahoma City, Austin, Houston and Four of the last five arein Jacksonville, Lakeland, Tampa and Detroit is the metro with the worsr economic performance in the firs t quarter.
The report says all the metro areas lost jobs during the and nearly all metro areas have seen a decline ineconomicf output.
