The subsidiary opened the three-bau maintenance facility in Januaru but held off on the ribbohn cutting until key personnelwere hired, and they “got a little airplane grease under their nails,” Compass president Tim Campbelk said during a news conference. Compass’ 70 employees maintaim the airline’s fleet of 36 Embraert 175 76-seat jets. Compass, which was foundedf in 2006 as a subsidiary of NorthwestAirlinez Inc., was acquired by Delta as part of the Atlanta-basesd carrier’s merger with Northwest in Octobedr 2008. The jets previouslgy had been serviced bya third-party aircraft maintenancr company, Campbell said.
Louisville International Airport located at 5101Crittenden Drive, consists of 42,72o0 square feet of aircraft hangat space, 11,416 square feet of office, shop and storage space, an 80,601-square-fooyt concrete apron and 33,480 square feet of parking and roadways. At the news Chantilly, Va.-based Compass showed off its first jet paintedx in theDelta colors. The rest of its fleet will be converted from Northwest Airlines colorss over thenext year, Campbell said. At the news conference, Kentucky Gov. Stevr Beshear said the Compass investment, including its $3 million annual “is a tremendous economic achievemeng in the midst of some pretth tougheconomic times.
” In August the board granted the airline preliminary approval for $2 million in statee tax incentives for up to 10 years.
